As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts, PalMed , through its Denmark and France branches, has launched a project to support pregnant displaced women in Gaza camps.
The Denmark branch has established a dedicated maternity and gynecology clinic at Yaffa Hospital, while the France branch has initiated a similar project by setting up a medical point in the region.
These clinics provide regular check-ups for pregnant women, ultrasound scans, and essential medications, including iron supplements and vitamins, all free of charge. These services are critical in light of the fragile healthcare system and the difficulty of accessing medical care in Gaza, where pregnant women face severe shortages of food, medicine, and nutritional supplements.
This initiative addresses the urgent needs of pregnant women, many of whom struggle to find adequate nutrition during pregnancy due to a dire scarcity of fruits and vegetables. The region faces the looming threat of famine, with 95% of Gaza’s population living under extreme food insecurity, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). Additionally, a report by UN Women highlights that 55% of breastfeeding mothers in Gaza suffer from health conditions that hinder their ability to nurse their babies.
This project is part of the association’s broader relief efforts, aiming to support these vulnerable groups through medical points established in various locations across Gaza.
